The breathtaking six-metre-wide replica of the Moon will go on show to members of the public at Harwell Campus, as part of The Light Project – a two-year programme of public engagement events to celebrate 80 years of cutting-edge research and technological breakthroughs at the Campus.

The world-renowned Museum of the Moon, created by UK artist Luke Jerram, has captivated over 20 million people across 41 countries. Now, this inspiring installation will take centre stage at Harwell from 21st May to 6th June 2025, marking the launch of The Light Project.

Visitors will have a rare opportunity explore the captivating installation, combining detailed NASA imagery, lighting effects, and an immersive soundscape. With every centimetre of the sculpture representing five kilometres, visitors can explore the intricate details of the Moon’s surface up close, creating a truly mesmerising experience for all ages.

During the exhibition, children can also take part in craft activities, try on space suits, and explore Spacescapes – a series of stunning postcards of the solar system.

The Museum of the Moon will be open to the public for a limited time at Harwell Campus. For more details, ticket information, and a full schedule of The Life Project events, head to our Light Project web page.

Members of the public can also book tickets for a series of special events under the Museum of the Moon, including:

  • Yoga: Relax and rejuvenate during serene yoga sessions
  • A silent disco by moonlight: Dance the night away under the Moon
  • A series of engaging and inspirational talks about space and the Moon.

Rebecca Duvall, Head of Community at Harwell Campus, commented: “We’re incredibly proud to launch our 80th anniversary celebrations with this remarkable installation. The Museum of the Moon is a fitting tribute to the spirit of innovation that has defined Harwell since its beginnings. We look forward to sharing this unique experience with the public as we embark on a two-year journey of celebration, innovation and discovery.”

The Museum of the Moon marks the first of many exciting events and initiatives planned for Harwell’s 80th anniversary, including a series of exhibitions, talks, outdoor cinema screenings, light shows, and collaborative projects designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators.
